This achievement marks the 10th music video in BTS's discography to surpass the 700 million mark, once again proving their global influence.
Released in July 2021, 'Permission to Dance' is a dance-pop track that conveys the message to everyone who has had a hard day: "You don't need permission to dance; you can dance freely as your heart desires." Released during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic, the song offered warm comfort to the world, suggesting, "Let's find freedom and happiness through dance and song despite the difficult situation," and "Life goes on regardless."
The music video is filled with the bright and lively energy of the BTS members. In the latter half, all seven members, along with a crowd, perform choreography using International Sign Language, spreading positive energy.
Furthermore, BTS performed the song at the 76th United Nations General Assembly in 2021, starting in the conference hall and moving through the lobby, entrance, and lawn of the building, delivering a message of hope to people worldwide. Upon its release, 'Permission to Dance' went straight to No. 1 on the US Billboard Main Singles Chart, the 'Hot 100,' and remained on the chart for seven consecutive weeks. The song also earned 'Gold' certification from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), awarded to tracks with sales of 500,000 units or more.
Meanwhile, BTS is scheduled to make a full-group comeback next spring.
