The 4th Seoul Integrated Arts Festival, ‘UnfoldX 2025,’ hosted by the Seoul Foundation for Arts and Culture, will be held at Culture Station Seoul 284 from December 9 to 21. Launched with the ‘Da Vinci Idea Competition’ in 2010, UnfoldX has fostered 178 emerging artists and grown into a leading platform in Korea’s Art & Tech sector. This year, the festival explores how technology reshapes daily life and examines Seoul’s potential as a hub for K-Culture and convergent arts. Highlights include the appointment of a global art director, a Korea-China-Japan exchange project, a nationwide network of 10 art organizations, and Gen Z–focused promotional programs.
◇ Main Works and Night Performances that Captivate the Eyes and Ears
UnfoldX 2025 will feature 26 works from 11 countries, including new pieces by 10 emerging domestic artists. In particular, the special night program, ‘UnfoldX Evening,’ will fill the nights of Seoul with artistic experiences by combining performances, sound, and live acts. Cod.Act (Switzerland) presents ‘πTon,’ a kinetic structure that autonomously generates rhythm and sound, while Noémie Vögeli showcases ‘Does It Still Matter,’ an immersive audiovisual reflection on mortality and environmental crisis. Anouk Kruithof’s ‘The Language of the Entire Planet’ reconstructs 8,800 dance videos from 196 countries, demonstrating a movement-based connection that transcends national and cultural boundaries. Meanwhile, Lee Jung-woo's AI-restored work, ‘Written Film, History to be Written,’ draws notable attention.
◇ Asian Artistic Collaboration and Evolving Networks on Screen
The joint project between Korea, China, and Japan will feature artists including Loop and Tail, Qiu Yu, and Side Core, who will present installations and performances on the theme of urban experience. ‘UnfoldX Talk’ offers artists a space to share their creative processes and relational changes, leading new dialogue, while the ‘UnfoldX Forum’ explores the current state and future direction of Korea’s Art & Tech ecosystem. Additionally, ‘UnfoldX Cinema’ features curated video works, including Han Kang's ‘Future Library: A Century Unfolds,’ offering audiences a deep multisensory experience on screen.
The Seoul Foundation for Arts and Culture stated, “UnfoldX has been reshaping Seoul’s Art & Tech landscape for the past 15 years, and this year, it plans to strengthen global cooperation and the East Asian network while presenting an innovative art ecosystem that encompasses Generation Z.”
The exhibition is free and open to the public daily from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM. During the ‘UnfoldX Evening’ program period, extended hours up to 9:30 PM allow visitors to experience the festival after dark.
