Lunit, Microsoft to Co-Develop Medical AI in First Big Tech Partnership

[Song Young-Doo, Edaily reporter] Lunit, a medical AI company, announced today that it is joining forces with global tech giant Microsoft to co-develop next generation medical AI solutions.

The two companies will integrate Lunit’s cancer diagnostic AI solutions into Microsoft’s Azure cloud platform to jointly develop customizable AI services and workflow automation tools for real-world clinical use. This partnership is expected to significantly accelerate the global deployment of Lunit’s AI solutions, including in the United States.

A core part of the collaboration is the development of a customizable AI service that allows healthcare providers to fine-tune AI models based on their unique clinical settings and datasets. One of the key challenges in medical AI today is the variation in performance due to differences in data and environments across medical institutions even when using the same AI model.

This new service will provide tailored AI models based on each institution’s proprietary medical data, enabling consistent and accurate diagnostic results regardless of the hospital.

Additionally, the companies plan to co-develop medical workflow automation solutions using “Agentic AI” a self-directed AI technology capable of autonomous decision-making and task execution without human intervention, currently gaining widespread attention in the AI industry.

The solution will be designed to handle the entire hospital workflow from imaging and diagnosis to result delivery and follow-up scheduling?automatically, significantly reducing the workload of healthcare professionals and improving the speed of patient care.

With this partnership, healthcare institutions worldwide will be able to remotely access the jointly developed AI solutions via Microsoft Azure without the need to build their own IT infrastructure. This is expected to lower barriers to AI adoption and accelerate clinical integration.
