Google's artificial intelligence model, Gemini, has reached a milestone of 350 million monthly active users, according to a recent report by TechCrunch. This comes amid ongoing legal scrutiny over Google's alleged dominance in the online search market. Despite this impressive figure, Gemini still trails behind OpenAI's ChatGPT, which recently announced it had surpassed 500 million subscribers.
Gemini's daily active users have seen significant growth, reaching 35 million last month, a fourfold increase from 9 million in October of the previous year. However, OpenAI's ChatGPT has shown even more remarkable growth, with a 40% increase in subscribers over three months, rising from 350 million at the end of last year.
OpenAI's CEO, Sam Altman, highlighted the widespread use of ChatGPT during his TED 2025 talk in Vancouver, noting that 10% of the global population is now using the system. OpenAI is optimistic about reaching a user base of 1 billion by the end of the year.
In contrast, Meta Platforms CEO Mark Zuckerberg disclosed last September that Meta AI's monthly active users were nearing the 500 million mark, further intensifying the competitive landscape in the AI sector. As AI technology continues to advance, companies are racing to capture a larger share of the rapidly expanding user base.
