San Francisco (Yonhap News Agency) - OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has teased the arrival of several new AI models, marking a significant moment for the company. On April 13th, Altman hinted on the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, that exciting news would unfold starting April 14th.
Though Altman kept the details under wraps, industry insiders suggest the release of GPT-4.1, an enhanced version of the multimodal model GPT-4o, is imminent. This new iteration is expected to handle not only text but also images and videos, with smaller versions like GPT-4.1 Mini and Nano also on the horizon.
Moreover, OpenAI is poised to officially launch o3, a sophisticated reasoning model introduced in December last year. The o3 model, which has been described as nearing artificial general intelligence (AGI) under certain conditions, is designed to consider multiple prompts before delivering what it determines to be the most accurate response. A notable feature of o3 is the "Reasoning Time Adjustment," allowing users to set the model's computation time to optimize performance.
Additionally, the introduction of a new reasoning model, o4 Mini, is reportedly in the works, though specific details about its capabilities remain undisclosed.
Altman emphasized the importance of attracting top-tier talent to meet the company's ambitious goals. He highlighted the vast scale of OpenAI's current projects and the need for expertise in infrastructure and hyperscale computing systems. Altman extended an invitation to those skilled in maximizing system performance, particularly those with backgrounds in compiler design or programming language design, to join the OpenAI team.
As the tech world eagerly awaits these announcements, OpenAI's latest developments promise to further push the boundaries of artificial intelligence and attract the brightest minds to its cause.
