[한국대학신문 백두산 기자] Chung-Ang University (President Park Sang-gue) has firmly established its position as a Research-focused university and proven itself as a leading research institution by securing the fifth-largest amount of research funding nationwide for two consecutive years.
According to the '2024 University Research Activity Status Analysis Report' recently published by the National Research Foundation of Korea, Chung-Ang University secured a total of 183.7 billion KRW in research funding in 2023. This ranks fifth nationwide among comprehensive private universities.
The scale of research funding acquisition is a key indicator that measures a university's research capabilities. To conduct research with global competitiveness in key fields of future industries such as Artificial intelligence (AI), next-generation semiconductors, bio-healthcare, and renewable energy, a stable financial foundation is essential. Chung-Ang University is proving its potential for sustainable development in Advanced science and technology fields by increasing its research funding acquisition.
The fact that Chung-Ang University has consistently ranked among the top universities in research funding is a result of its systematic transition into a Research-focused university and the Activation of Convergence research. Since the appointment of President Park Sang-gue in 2020, Chung-Ang University has set the transition to a Research-focused University as a main goal and has made comprehensive efforts to create an convergence research environment and strengthen its research support system.
Chung-Ang University's achievements stand out in advanced fields. Throughout 2024, Chung-Ang University was consecutively selected for projects such as ▲the Innovation Convergence University Program in Advanced Materials and Nano Convergence, ▲the Metaverse Convergence Graduate School Support Project, and ▲the University ICT Research Center Development Support Program, securing a leading position in future-oriented research fields. The success in securing these large-scale national projects has led to an expansion in research funding, serving as a key opportunity to prove Chung-Ang University's research competitiveness to the outside world.
By employing an interdisciplinary approach through convergence research, Chung-Ang University is also securing a differentiated competitiveness over other universities. Through research that integrates a wide range of academic fields, including the Humanities, Sciences, Arts, and Medicine, Chung-Ang University is creating original research in various advanced areas such as AI, advanced materials, and biotechnology.
Chung-Ang University is also accelerating the expansion of infrastructure to generate even more outstanding research in the future. Based on Seoul's 'University Space Innovation Plan', construction of the 'Natural and Engineering Research Cluster', which will span 13 above-ground floors, 5 underground floors, and a total floor area of approximately 640000 ft.,is set to begin in 2025. Based on the optimal environment for advanced technology research, the Natural and Engineering Research Cluster, which is expected to become a research hub for future advanced industries, is anticipated to significantly enhance Chung-Ang University's research competitiveness.
Chung-Ang University plans to continue expanding research funding and strengthening research competitiveness to generate practical and innovative research outcomes that meet the needs of the nation and society, while striving to maintain its progress toward becoming a Global Research-focused university.
President Park Sang-gue stated, "The achievement of ranking 5th in research funding for two consecutive years clearly proves that Chung-Ang University's Research-focused university system has taken a further step forward," and added, "Through the creation of a convergence research environment, expansion of research infrastructure, and strengthening of global collaboration networks, Chung-Ang University will continue to showcase its development as a Research-focused University leading future industries."
