JYP Entertainment, a leading South Korean music label, has announced its latest strategic partnership with Republic Records, a US-based music label under the Universal Music Group. Republic Records is a leading mainstream music label in the US and was selected by Billboard as the number one label in the country.
This partnership will focus on enhancing the distribution, marketing, and development of JYP’s artists and their music in the US and worldwide. JYP Entertainment artists such as TWICE, Stray Kids, Xdinary Heroes, NMIXX, and ITZY will benefit from this collaboration.
JYP and Republic Records launched a girl group project A2K in 2020, which aims to scout for global girl group talent in the US. The auditions were held in five major cities in the US. Selected candidates undergo systematic training under JYP's producers and creative directors, including Park Jin-young, the chief creative officer.
JYP's partnership with Republic Records has already produced significant results. TWICE, one of the most popular K-Pop girl groups, has placed four albums in the top ten of the US Billboard 200. Stray Kids, a K-Pop boy group, recently held a successful concert at BMO Stadium in Los Angeles, becoming the second K-Pop boy group to sell out a US stadium.
JYP's CEO, Jung Wook, said that this partnership would enhance mutual trust and generate new opportunities for K-Pop's future vision. Republic Records CEO Monte Lipman stated that this partnership recognizes the explosive popularity of K-Pop and the potential it holds for the future.
