The film The King's Warden has begun the final countdown toward the 10 million admissions milestone. Even amid a wave of new releases, the historical drama continues its dominant run at No.1 at the Korean box office.
According to the Korean Film Council’s integrated box office network on March 5, The King's Warden drew 189,643 moviegoers on March 4, maintaining the top spot. Its cumulative audience total now stands at 9,597,461.
The King's Warden tells the story of a village chief who voluntarily follows the young dethroned king into exile in Cheongnyeongpo in 1457 in hopes of restoring his village. The film is the first Korean production to explore a hidden chapter of King Danjong’s story. Directed by storyteller Jang Hang-jun, the film features a powerful ensemble cast including Yoo Hae-jin, Park Ji-hoon, Yoo Ji-tae, Jeon Mi-do, and Kim Min.
The film reached 3 million viewers in 14 days, 4 million in 15 days, 5 million in 18 days, 6 million in 20 days, 7 million in 24 days, and 8 million in 26 days after release. It now stands on the verge of becoming the first Korean film this year to surpass 10 million admissions.
Hoppers debuted in second place on its opening day, attracting 17,155 viewers and bringing its cumulative total to 69,566.
Often described as a Disney and Pixar style adventure, Hoppers follows Mabel, a girl who becomes a robotic beaver through a technology known as “hopping.” She infiltrates a surprising animal world and embarks on an unexpected adventure. The film is drawing attention as a potential successor to the box office momentum of Disney and Pixar hits such as Inside Out 2 and Zootopia 2.
Released on the same day as Hoppers, The Bride! secured third place with 7,358 viewers on its first day, reaching a cumulative total of 7,626.
Set in 1930s America, the film tells the story of Bride, a young woman resurrected at the request of the lonely Frankenstein played by Christian Bale. Their love unfolds in ways no one can control.
Humint slipped to fourth place, drawing 6,837 viewers for the day and bringing its cumulative audience to 1,881,274.
Humint unfolds in Vladivostok, where secrets and truths alike sink into the icy sea as individuals with different motives collide. Directed by Ryoo Seung-wan, known for Mogadishu, Smugglers, and the Veteran series, the film stars Zo In-sung, Park Jung-min, Shin Se-kyung, and Park Hae-joon.
Mad Dance Office debuted in fifth place with 5,420 viewers, bringing its cumulative total to 8,350.
The film follows Guk-hee, a civil servant who has lived a perfectly controlled life. When her life begins to unravel, she unexpectedly discovers hope through flamenco dancing.
