I.O.I will reunite in celebration of their 10th anniversary. The group, once called the “nation’s girl group” for the impact they generated during just six months of activity, is set to return with a new album approximately nine years after concluding their project promotions.
On February 23, Swing Entertainment announced that I.O.I — Lim Nayoung, Chungha, Kim Sejeong, Jung Chaeyeon, Kim Sohye, Yoo Yeonjung, Choi Yoojung, Kim Doyeon and Jeon Somi — will make a comeback in May.
This marks the group’s first official activity since wrapping up their project with a concert in January 2017. Formed through Mnet’s Produce 101 in 2016, I.O.I promoted for about six months and scored consecutive hits including “Dream Girls,” “Whatta Man,” “Very Very Very,” and “Downpour,” establishing a powerful presence in the industry.
Now, a decade after their formation, the members have built careers as solo artists, actresses and entertainers. Their return as a single team once again adds weight to the reunion.
Due to previously scheduled commitments, Kang Mina and Zhou Jieqiong will not participate in this comeback. I.O.I will therefore promote as a nine-member unit. Expectations are high that the members’ established individual influence will translate into renewed synergy, with additional activities such as a potential Asia tour anticipated.
Further details regarding I.O.I’s 10th anniversary comeback schedule and album will be released sequentially.
