North Korea fires projectile into East Sea

SEOUL, January 14 (AJP) - North Korea fired an unidentified projectile into the East Sea on Tuesday, the Joint Chiefs of Staff here said.

According to the JCS, the projectile, which appeared to be a ballistic missile, was launched around 9:30 a.m.

The launch came just a week after North Korea test-launched a new intermediate-range ballistic missile (IRBM) equipped with a hypersonic warhead on Jan. 6.

South Korean and U.S. intelligence authorities are analyzing the details.

North Korea is ramping up its provocations, ahead of incoming U.S. President Donald Trump's inauguration on Jan. 20, in an apparent bid to draw attention to itself.
