SEOUL -- A total of 579 electric vehicle battery companies from 18 countries will participate in the InterBattery, an annual battery exhibition held in Seoul from March 6 to March 8. Exhibitors will showcase new battery-related technologies and products at the COEX Convention & Exhibition Center located in Gangnam District, the fashion and finance hub of Seoul.
The annual battery event, organized by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, is one of the largest battery exhibitions in South Korea. According to the official website of InterBattery, more than 75,000 buyers are expected to visit the event spot this year. In 2023, about 60,000 visitors attended the exhibition.
Major South Korean battery makers will take part in the three-day event. Samsung SDI will unveil its mass production roadmap for solid-state batteries known for their higher energy density than lithium-ion batteries, enabling faster charging, higher voltage, and longer cycle life. The company will also reveal its fast-charging technology, capable of charging an EV battery up to 80 percent capacity in just nine minutes.
LG Energy Solution will showcase its cell to pack (CTP) technology. Cells are typically organized into modules and packs, with modules consisting of clusters of cells and packs consisting of clusters of modules. However, CTP technology aims to directly integrate cells into packs without the intermediate step of modules. This innovation improves the energy density of packs and lowers costs.
Other domestic participants include SK On, the battery-making unit of SK Group, and Dongwon Systems, the packaging solution developer wing of Dongwon Group. "We hope InterBattery will become a global business platform for South Korea's battery industry to lead the global secondary battery market," said COEX President Lee Dong-ki.
