Chung-Ang University and the University of Georgia have established a comprehensive partnership framework encompassing joint research and student exchange.

[한국대학신문 이정환 기자] Chung-Ang University (President Park Sang-gue) and the University of Georgia (UGA), one of the research-intensive universities representing United States, have established a comprehensive partnership framework encompassing joint research and student exchange.

On July 25th, President Park Sang-gue visited the University of Georgia in the United States, where he met with Provost Benjamin Ayers to sign a memorandum of understanding (MOU) that paves the way for future collaboration between the two institutions.

Through this MOU, Chung-Ang University and the University of Georgia are looking to explore areas of cooperation in several fields, including △joint research projects △faculty and researcher exchanges △expansion of student exchange programs △organization of joint academic conferences and workshops and △sharing of academic information and resources.

This agreement also seeks to broaden the scope of cooperation beyond existing areas such as Education and Statistics, and to include new fields such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Bioengineering, Medicine, Pharmacy, and Arts Engineering. Both universities are excited about the potential to strengthen their collaboration and expand their research activities together.

In particular, the University of Georgia plans to expand its faculty short-term overseas residency program—being implemented to promote international joint research—to relevant academic fields at Chung-Ang University, and match it with Chung-Ang University’s distinguished overseas scholars invitation program to maximize research collaboration outcomes. In addition, both institutions are hopeful that a student exchange agreement will be finalized soon to allow student exchanges starting in the latter half of next year.

The University of Georgia has also expressed a strong interest in Chung-Ang University’s summer short-term program CAT (Culture and Art Technology), which has gained popularity among students from the U.S. and Europe. The University of Georgia plans to send students to participate in this program next summer, which will further deepen the universities’ collaborative efforts.

Provost Benjamin Ayers stated, “Chung-Ang University is one of Korea’s leading prestigious universities, equipped with innovative research capabilities and an excellent education system,” and emphasized that “through this MOU, students from both universities will gain diverse cultural experiences and broad academic opportunities, which will greatly contribute to nurturing global leaders who will lead the future.”

President Park Sang-gue stated, “This agreement is meaningful in that it marks the beginning of substantive research collaboration with the University of Georgia, the first public university in the United States,” and added, “We are optimistic about the opportunities this partnership will offer to our students and faculty, and look forward to welcoming students from both universities as part of future exchange programs.”

Meanwhile, the University of Georgia, established in 1785 as the first public university in the United States, is the Flagship university of the State of Georgia, with a student body of 40,000 and approximately 3,000 faculty and staff members. It is recognized as one of the top 20 public universities in the United States and is also the university that has produced the largest number of Fulbright Scholars. It has also produced 28 recipients of the world-renowned Rhodes Scholarship, which has been awarded to notable figures such as former U.S. President Bill Clinton and former Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott.
